Create an e-mail Everything it can do
Moving your old mailbox here
From Gmail, Seznam, Outlook or your own server. Mail is copied with its folder structure; nothing in the old mailbox is touched.
Before you start
You need two things: the address of the old mailbox and an app password. The second one is not your normal password — it is a one-purpose code you generate at your provider and can revoke at any time.
Gmail
- 1Turn on 2-step verification Google does not offer app passwords without it. Google Account → Security → 2-Step Verification.
- 2Generate an app password Security → App passwords. You get sixteen characters — copy them, they are shown only once.
- 3Start the transfer in the portal Mailboxes → your mailbox → Import old mail. Pick Gmail, enter the full address and that generated password.
You do not need to fill in the server or port — they are
filled in for you (imap.gmail.com, port 993).
Seznam.cz
- 1Enable IMAP Mail settings → POP3/IMAP. Without it no application can connect to the mailbox, ours included.
- 2Credentials Usually the normal password works. If you have two-factor enabled, or the transfer fails with “login refused”, generate an app password in the settings and use that instead.
- 3Start the transfer Pick Seznam in the portal and enter the address and password.
imap.seznam.czis filled in for you.
Outlook and Microsoft 365
The same as Gmail: Microsoft account → Security → Advanced security options →
App passwords. outlook.office365.com is filled in for you.
Your own server
Choose Custom IMAP and fill in the server address. We expect port 993 and an encrypted connection; plaintext IMAP is not supported.
What happens next
The transfer runs in the background, in batches, so you can close the portal. A large mailbox can take hours. You can watch the progress on the same page — how many messages are done and which folder is being copied.
- Folders are preserved exactly as you had them.
- If the transfer is interrupted (outage, restart) it resumes where it stopped. No message is copied twice.
- The old mailbox is not modified. Nothing is deleted from it; it is only read.
- You can cancel at any time and start again.
What we do with your password
We need the password to the old mailbox only to download the mail. We store it encrypted and delete it as soon as the transfer ends — whether it succeeds, fails or is cancelled. It is never printed anywhere: not in logs, not in the audit trail, not in API responses. The audit keeps only which provider and which username was used.
If it does not work
- “Login refused” — almost always a normal password instead of an app password, or IMAP disabled at the provider.
- Cannot connect — on your own server, check the address and that it listens on port 993 with encryption.
- The transfer ended with an error — start it again. It picks up where it stopped; finished messages are not copied twice.
If you get stuck, write to us and we will go through it with you.
